What type of towbar do you need?

Not every towing job is the same, and not every towbar is built for the same load. We fit towbars for all use cases, and we’ll help you work out which one suits your vehicle and what you plan to tow.

Class 4 - Heavy duty towing

Class 4 towbars are built for serious towing. Rated from 1,400kg up to 3,500kg braked, they suit 4WDs, large SUVs, utes and wagons.

This is for you if you’re towing a caravan, boat, horse float or other heavy trailer.

Class 2 - lighter vehicles

Class 2 towbars are the right fit for smaller vehicles and lighter loads. Sedans, hatchbacks and compact SUVs towing up to 1,200kg braked.

Perfect for a box trailer, jet ski, camper trailer, or a bike carrier for the weekend.

Towing with a European or EV/Hybrid vehicle?

Tom’s also fit towbars to European vehicles and most electric and hybrid cars.

Towbars for European vehicles

European vehicles like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen and Volvo often have specific fitment requirements that need a bit more know-how than your average Japanese or Korean model.

Our team is comfortable with European makes and we can source the right towbars and wiring solutions to suit them properly.

Towbars for EV/Electric and Hybrid vehicles

Tom’s fits towbars to all major electric and hybrid makes; including Polestar, BYD, MG, Kia EV6/EV9, Hyundai IONIQ, Toyota hybrids and more.

*Please note we don’t currently fit towbars to Tesla vehicles.

We can setup your complete towing solution

A towbar is just the start. If you need the full towing setup, we can sort out everything from there — trailer wiring (7-pin or 12-pin), Anderson plugs, and electric brake controllers for heavier loads. Tell us what you’re towing and we’ll make sure you’re set up properly from day one.

Quality Towbars, properly fitted

We supply and install quality Australian towbars. Every installation is carried out by our experienced team and backed by our workmanship guarantee.

Most installations are done in a few hours. The exact time depends on your vehicle and whether you’re having wiring or accessories fitted at the same time. We’ll give you a clear timeframe when you book.
Yes. The towbars Tom’s supplies come with a product warranty from the manufacturer. On top of that, our installations are covered by our workmanship guarantee; so you’re covered on both the product and the fitting.

This is probably the most common concern people have, and it’s more nuanced than dealers often let on.

Under Australian Consumer Law, a manufacturer or dealer cannot void your vehicle warranty simply because you’ve had an aftermarket accessory fitted by an independent workshop. They would need to demonstrate that the accessory or its installation actually caused the fault being claimed – and a properly installed, ADR-compliant towbar is very unlikely to do that.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has been clear on this. If a dealer tells you that fitting an aftermarket towbar will void your warranty, it’s worth asking them to put that in writing – because in most cases, they can’t back that claim up.
